Series: Read-a-thons

TBR: Bout of Books Read-a-thon 17

Hello, reader, and welcome (back) to Writer Central! The Bout of Books

Today I just wanted to make a quick announcement…but, of course, if you know me, I tend to ramble on and on…so perhaps this won’t be so quick.  Nevertheless, I hope you’ll stick around and enjoy what I have to share with you!

I made a decision, upon watching Little Book Owl’s video on booktube, that I’m going to be participating in a read-a-thon that she also participates in, called the Bout of Books.  From what I understand, the basic goal is to get rid of those lengthy currently-reading lists by seeing how much you can read in the span of a week.  (Because those lengthy currently-reading lists are the devil.)   You can sign up until Tuesday, August 23rd at 11:59pm CST, so I suggest you hurry and do so!

If you’re interested, you can find out more in the “official blurb,” a.k.a. that text quote below this sentence.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

If that didn’t cover all your questions, then you should be able to find any remaining information by clicking on the Bout of Books button above.

Anyway, I’ve never done a read-a-thon before, so I thought this one would be a good start because it’s short and laid-back.  Plus, school is starting soon and I’m about to get a lot busier, so I thought I would try to twist my strong competitive side and my love for books together and accomplish a lot before reading is nearly pushed from my schedule all the way. 😦

Down below you can find my TBR for the week!  There are only three books in the list so far, but that could fluctuate depending on how fast/slow I seem to be getting through.  I’ll be sure to keep y’all posted with any updates throughout the week.

So, here we go!

the cursed childHarry Potter and the Cursed Child – Parts One and Two

by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne

I’m really behind on this one (it seems like everyone else has already finished it).  I’ve barely started Act II and I really need to get through the whole thing.  The reason I’ve been putting off doing so is that I need to finish my library books before I can start on the ones I own, this book being one of the latter.  Still, I hope I can finish this within the first day, write my review (I already have so much Cursed Child crap to get out of my head and I’m still less than halfway in!) and then focus on the next book for the majority of the week.

I do know that fans’ thoughts on this book are a little mixed, and I’m starting to see why.  Still, I can’t wait to finally finish it and to not be one of the few pathetic little stragglers who hasn’t yet.  Currently, I’m on page 137 out of 308, but it’s a fast read and I’m confident that I can finish it.

a court of thorns and roses

A Court of Thorns and Roses

by Sarah J. Maas

Yes, this one came out awhile ago, but I was a little behind on getting into Maas’s books.  I told myself that I would start this series as soon as I finished the books from the Throne of Glass series.  And I did finish, so here I am reading this one.  I’ve read the synopsis and I’m actually quite excited for what it has in store for me.  This book is my top priority because I only have it for a short while.

I just got this book from the library today and haven’t started it yet, so I don’t have high expectations for finishing it within the week, even though it is a heck of a lot smaller than Maas’s other books!  Hopefully I can read a good chunk of it, though.

allegiant

Allegiant

by Veronica Roth

And, last but not least, the book I am definitely the most behind on.  This book has been popular for a super long time, and I’ve owned it for even longer (since Christmas of 2013, right after it came out).  But somehow, probably because of a situation similar to the one I’m in with The Cursed Child, I just haven’t really gotten to it yet.  I read the first two books (obviously) and enjoyed them, but I got into a bit of a Divergent lull after Insurgent.  I’ve been several chapters into Allegiant for a long time now and I know I finally need to finish it, so I’m adding it to this list in case I somehow, miraculously, finish the first two in time.

I added this book to my Bout of Books TBR as a sort of last-minute decision, in case I somehow finished the first two before the week was up.  It’s my last priority, and because, at this point, I’m on roughly page 43 of 526, I don’t think I’ll be finishing it this week.

I’ll try to write a review when I’m done with it.  If I’m ever done with the dang thing.

So there you have it!  If you’re still around at the end of the ramble, that is….

Anyway, this is my TBR for the upcoming week.  Please check out Bout of Books and see if you’re interested in participating.  I would love to have you join us!  All you have to do is click the Bout of Books button above and follow the instructions.

I’ll try to post at least two updates over the week, and a sort of review/wrap-up at the end, so keep your eyes peeled for that!  If you enjoyed this blog post and are interested in seeing the others I’ve written, they can all be found here.  Also, feel free to follow my blog so you’ll get notified every week when I post writerly and bookish things.

If you have a writing question or idea, or even a thought on this post, just comment below or contact me through email or social media, and I’ll get back to you.

Now, let me know:

Are you participating in Bout of Books 17?  If so, what is your TBR list for the week?
